    A 4ft Bed is smaller than a 4ft6 Bed

A 4ft bed is basically 6 inches (15.24cm) narrower than a 4ft6 bed. However, the length of a 4ft bed is exactly the same as 4ft6 bed which is great news if you’re worried about your legs hanging out of the bottom! The length of both beds is 190cm. However, when purchasing any bed you need to make sure that you look at the overall size of the bed frame.

Whilst a bed frame will be advertised as 4ft for example, the overall measurements could be more. This is because all sizes of beds are based on the size of the mattress it will hold. If you are keen to keep the overall measurements as close to the mattress size as possible then you may want to look at our divan beds. The mattress sits directly on top of the base of these beds and therefore the width will remain pretty much the same as the mattress. The length may be longer though and will depend on whether you have a headboard or not.

Which Size Bed Should I Chose?

So now we’ve established what the difference between a 4ft6 bed and a 4ft bed is you might want to know which size bed is best for you. Unequivocally, the best size bed for you will be dependent on your needs. However, here are a few guidelines to help you decide.

What Is The Difference Between a 4f6 Bed a 4ft Bed?

    1. How Many People Will Be Sleeping in the Bed?

If the bed is for one person and will be for the foreseeable future, then a 4ft bed is more than adequate.  For example, many growing children who want a ‘grown up’ bed find that a 4ft bed is a great solution. Indeed, they will have enough space sprawl around but will also have extra floor space. However, if space allows and more than one person will be sleeping in the bed, then a 4ft6 bed is more appropriate.

    2. Is The Bed Going to Be in a Spare Bedroom?

If the bed is going to be used as a spare bed and it won’t be used on a regular basis then a 4ft bed could be the ideal solution.  Even if more than one person will be using the bed then a 4ft bed is ideal for occasional use. Indeed, spare bedrooms are often one of the smallest rooms in the house and therefore every inch counts.

    3. How Big Is the Bedroom?

Last but by no means least, the size of the bedroom will be the main influential factor as regards to what size bed you should pick. In general you should aim to have at least a 30cm gap by the side of your bed to get in and out of easily. If, you’re in any doubt then the best thing to do is to mark the area of the bed on the floor. Masking tape is ideal for this.
