What Can You Do With An Old Mattress?

You've been bed partners for several years but the time has come to your separate ways. Yep, the time has come to get a new mattress and get rid of your old mattress. However, more and more of us are becoming conscious of our environmental impact. Therefore we are looking for ways to dispose of our mattress sustainably. Indeed, there are a number ways your mattress doesn't have to end up at landfill. Here are top tips on what to do with your old mattress. If you're looking to buy a new mattress then just click here.

    Donate To Charity

If you're disposing of your mattress because it isn't fulfilling your needs but is still in good condition then a charity shop is the best place for it. Having spoken to a number of different charity shops, we are aware that there is a high demand for mattresses. Indeed, a mattress can be an expensive purchase and not one that everyone can easily afford. Therefore, not only are you saving your mattress from landfill when you donate it to charity but you are potentially helping someone less fortunate. That sounds like a win-win situation to us! However, before you do donate your mattress you must ensure it is in good condition and also still has its fire labelled attached.

Donate On A Free Ads Site

Whilst we think donating to charity is the best practice for a good mattress, you can also give your mattress away for free yourself. For example Freecycle is a non for profit organisation where you can advertise your mattress for free. Whilst you won't get any money for it, you can be assured that your old mattress won't be going to landfill.

    Sell Your Mattress

If your mattress has barely been used and you need to recoup some of the money spent to go towards a new one then why not sell your old mattress? This is a great option if you've bought a mattress only a few weeks or months ago and it just doesn't fit the bill. You can sell on Facebook marketplace and Gumtree for free or if you want a wider audience then there is still the old faithful, Ebay.

    Recycle

Last but by no means least you can also look at having your old mattress recycled. This is a green way to dispose of your mattress if your mattress can't be reused in any other above methods. There are a number of companies that offer such a service. The Mattress Recycling People are just one of the companies offering this service. You can find out more information here.
