The History

Silentnight was first founded in 1946 in the town of Skipton in North Yorkshire. In 1961 the brand was growing at neck break speed and consequently had to move to larger premises in Lancashire and that is where they remain today. Some 20 years later in 1986 Silentnight revolutionised the world of mattresses with their miracoil spring system and from humble beginnings a super brand was born. Indeed, it was at this point that their advertising campaign introduced the Hippo and the Duck that became loved in households across the nation. Since then, this British brand has gone on to introduce the mirapocket, geltex and oodles of fabulous mattresses. The icing on the cake was when they were bestowed with the sustanability award in 1917.

British Manufacturing

More and more of us are seeking to furnish our homes with British made products. Indeed, Silentnight have been making beds and mattresses in Britain for over 70 years. Therefore, as a brand they are helping local employment as well as fulfilling a number of apprenticeships, assisting young people into full time employment. The BFM recognises and supports British manufacturing with a code of practice which ensures members use the best materials and manufacturer the finest products.
