So, you’ve got the bed of your dreams and you’re sleeping like a log. However, if you really want to up the ante then you need to learn how to dress your bed like a pro. Indeed, your bed should be the focal point in your bedroom and therefore it deserves first class treatment. Plus, what’s better than jumping into bed at night than in bed that looks like it’s from the cover of an interiors magazine.
We spend up to a third of our lives in bed and therefore it pays to make your bed as comfy as possible. Therefore, we advise buying the best quality bedding that you can afford. Without a doubt cotton is the most popular bedding material. This is because it is strong, easy to clean and breathable. If you want the very best cotton linen then you should keep an eye out for Egyptian cotton. Look at the thread count as the higher the count the better the quality.
What looks more inviting than a plush pillow to lay your head on. Pillows are a very personal thing and again you get what you pay for. For that hotel look, you should have two pillows on each side of a double or king size bed. Don’t forget to plump your pillows when making your bed and keep the open side of the pillowcase to the outside of the bed.
Adding a throw to your bed is a great way of layering and making your bed look super comfy. When it comes to throws you should look to add some texture that contrasts to your bedding. For example, if you want a glam look then a velvet throw could be just the ticket. Or if you prefer a more natural vibe then an oversized chunky knit might be more suitable. Remember your throw shouldn’t be styled too neatly. To dress your bed like a designer, try draping your throw at the bottom third of your bed for a relaxed but inviting vibe.
Dress the top half of your bed with some carefully chosen scatter cushions. Look for cushions that compliment the rest of your room décor. If your bedding is white then this is a great way of introducing pops of colour and pattern. If your bedding is patterned then use predominantly plain cushions with varying textures. The amount of cushions you use should be determined by the size of your bed. The bigger the bed the more cushions you should use. As a general rule you should use between 3 and 6 cushions depending on the size of your bed and your personal preference.
Do you want that just washed linen smell on your bedding every night? Then you need to invest in some linen spray. Beautiful smelling bedding is a great way to invoke a greats night sleep and there are oodles of linen scents to chose from. A particularly great scent for bedding is lavender as this can help to relax you at night.
