If you’re spending too much time tossing and turning at night without getting to sleep then you need to read our top tips to help you fall asleep! If you’ve tried counting sheep but counted so many that you need a tally chart to keep track, then you need some more tricks up your sleeve. Luckily, here at Beds on Legs we’re obsessed, perhaps a little unhealthily, with all things sleep related. We know how important getting your shut eye is and we’re here to help you get the rest you deserve. Without further ado, here are our top tips to help you fall asleep.
In modern times our number one top tip to help you fall asleep is to stop using technology 1-2 hours before you hit the sack. Whilst most of us can feel the panic set in when we’re detached from our phones, unfortunately our technology companions aren’t helping us to sleep. This is largely because mobile phones etc emit blue light which effects the production for melatonin. Melatonin is fondly known as the sleep hormone and without enough of it that slumber isn't going to happen. So do your melatonin a favour, he’s a helpful hormone after all, and switch off from your phone for some sleepy downtime.
Mediation has become a mainstream method for calming the mind and is a fantastic tool to add to your bedtime tool kit. If your mind is a whirlwind of thoughts on a night and you feel like you can’t get off the thinking merry go round, then meditation could really help. Indeed, meditation can help to quieten the mind and is a great way to help you fall asleep. What’s more, it’s entirely free or if you need guided meditation then there are some great apps at competitive prices.
In winter it can feel a bit of a struggle dragging ourselves out of the house into the wilderness outdoors. However, being cooked up all day, either at work or at home, is conducive to a good night’s sleep. Just a short walk is enough to benefit your sleep and you never know you might even enjoy it!
Did you know that reading a book when it comes to getting to sleep is one of oldest tricks in the book, excuse the pun! Indeed, reading a book has been shown to often be more successful than any other sleep aid on the market. What’s more, a nail-biting thriller works just as effectively as a more sedate book. So, if you like a gory murder story on the night you can still have your thrills and sleep!
Over the last few years, more and more people have taken advantage of weighted blankets. A weighted blanket is basically heavier than a standard blanket and takes inspiration from a therapeutic technique known as deep pressure stimulation. Therefore, if you’re struggling with sleep or anxiety is keeping you awake then a weighted blanket could help you fall asleep.
