    The Big Lie In

As the holiday season is up on us you may be looking forward to a well deserved lie in. Sometimes there is nothing more exciting than not having to set your alarm for the next morning. Instead you can stay buried under your duvet covers and snooze away the morning and even the afternoon! Indeed if you're feeling sleep deprived you may see this as an opportunity to catch up on some serious shut eye. However, getting a lie in might not be as good for you as you hoped. Unfortunately the big lie might actually be damaging to your health in more ways than one. Here at Beds On Legs we've done some digging to find out the truth about the much treasured lie in.

Why It Might Be Bad For You To Lie In

A new study by the medical research council has concluded that sleeping in on your day off might harm your health. The study involved looking at the sleep habits of 800 men and women aged 38. Indeed the particular focus of this study was on 'social jet lag'. This is the difference between waking hours when at work compared to those when not. The study found that being socially jet lagged increases the risk of obesity and diabetes. Therefore this means that people who regularly get up a couple of hours later on their days off could be posing a risk to their health. However, it is unclear why sleeping in might be bad for you. One hypothesis is that a change in your sleep routine may impact on appetite hormones.

Is There Any Benefit To Sleeping In?

Thankfully it is not all doom and gloom. Whilst a regular morning spent under the covers might not be beneficial for health an occasional lie in is fine. We can hear the sighs of relief from here! Again, as with a lot things, moderation is key. Indeed the key is to not sleep in on every weekend. However, the best thing you can do is listen to your body. If you feel exhausted then a bit of rest and relaxation might be key to restoring your va va voom. Furthermore, you can negate some of the effects of sleeping by sticking to a healthy diet. This means limiting your intake sugars and fats.
